We hate to play out the term "raw street skating", but that's all this really is. Less than perfect spots, no fancy cameras, and if you think about it, no fancy tech tricks either. Skateboarding in its purest form, and that?s what we?ve come to love about video from Joe Perrin and crew.
Jon Newport kicks the video off, and we're glad because it's been too long since we've seen some footy from him. Jon doesn't disappoint and delivers a well rounded part with a few bangers at the end.
A big surprise in this video came up next with Alex Davis. Alex is super smooth and skates a few obstacles in ways you wouldn't normally think. Definitely an entertaining part, and hopefully we'll see more of him in the future.
There are quite a few montages in this video, and to be honest, are worth the price of the video alone. Todd Jordan, Dan Pensyl, Tony Manfre, Jerry Mraz, Curtis Rapp, Rodrigo Peterson, Brian Brown, and Clark Hassler all bring the ruckus in what is definitely one of the best montages as of late.
If you're in the need of a Habitat fix, you?re in luck. Fred Gall, Ed Selego, and Stefan Janoski have more than a handful of tricks -- all of which are up to par, and could've been used in Inhabitants. Janoskis huge tre flip was pretty amazing, and Fred skates some grimy spots that make you feel the need to wash your hands after watching. Steve Durante is fluid and effortless, and you're going to have to rewind and watch his ender again because it's just too damn good.
Joe Staley has a really awesome part and should be way more popular than he is. After you watch his part there's no doubt that you'll agree. Hard to explain, but he just really makes skateboarding look fun, and we like that.
Another part that should get you psyched is from Danny Renaud. All of his footage is from before his horrible accident, and we hope he's having a speedy recovery because his part is so good. Short, sweet, and to the point, this is classic Renaud. Get well soon, Danny.
You couldn't have asked for a better way to close out a video, because James Frankhouse, Dave Caddo, and Josh Dowd do an awesome job of doing so. They all make you want to drop what you're doing and skate, and that's how you know you have a good video. And get the rewind button ready, cause Josh Dowds enders are pretty ridiculous.
Hands down, this is easily one of the best videos of 2008. And for an independent video getting released the same year as Ride The Sky, and And Now, that?s saying a lot. Clocking in at just under 50 minutes, it seems drag on at times, but that would be our only gripe the video. But at the end of the day, you definitely get your money's worth -- 50 minutes is a heck of a lot of skateboarding.
Get it here.
