We all can have our pet peeves about certain things, but for some reason as skateboarders, a lot of things tend to annoy the hell out of us. We guarantee that you'll agree with most, if not all of these.
Grip Tape Blues
When you're concentrating on a trick and look down at your board, the last thing you want to see is some sort of leaf, dirt, or even worse gum stuck in your grip. Ever try picking gum out of your grip? Not a pretty situation. Oh, and have you ever had a rock in your shoe when you go to move your foot into position for a trick? That little pebble in your shoe may not seem like a big deal, but once you move your foot it creates what is probably the worst sound on earth.
Getting The Boot
Sometimes it'll be the office building that has the most perfect ledges that are just waiting to be skated, and sometimes you'll have the worst day and just get kicked out of every spot you go to. So where do you go after you get kicked out of everywhere? The park! Which brings us to our next pet peeve...
Tickets At The Park
All right, we understand that if you pay to get into a park, then yes, you should at least listen to the rules a little bit and wear a helmet if you have to. But then there are these free parks that the towns put up to keep you off the streets, and what do they do? They ticket you and kick you out of the park for not having pads on! If they really wanted really wanted to keep us off of the streets, they would let us choose whether we wanted to wear pads or not. Well, in a perfect world anyway.
Ripped Shoe Laces
This one is up there with dirty grip tape. You buy a new pair of shoes and after you skate them for a day or two, the shoelaces rip. We know it doesn't take long to change laces, but c'mon, we're skateboarders. Our general population consists of people who wake up at 1 PM and don't leave the house until 3. So if there are any shoe companies out there reading this, please make some shoe laces that don't rip. Or maybe we should just patent that one ourselves?
Lurkers, Street Spectators, Bums, etc.
It can be at your local park or some random ledge in your city, there will always be people wanting to watch what you're doing and of course, comment on it. But can you blame them? Who wouldn't be intrigued by a bunch of dudes circled around a handrail, pointing at the stairs and talking about a "run up", saying random words like "feeble grind" and "front blunt". To the random passer by, we must look crazy, and that's not to mention the actual act of skating.
And then of course there's the age-old question from people who know what we're up to, but also think we're an MTV film crew. Yep, you guessed it, the dreaded MTV Scarred question. "Are you guys filming for Scarred?" they might ask. Well, what do they want us to say? "Yes, we're filming for Scarred, and now I'm intentionally going to slam on my face so you can sit there and laugh about it." C'mon, man. I'm not sure how many more times I can take this question, but then again, it's better than being asked if I personally know Big Black or Meaty.
HONORABLE MENTIONS: Broken boards, rain, snow, and chunked ledges.
